Thanks for the tips. I have to admit I'm taking extra paracetomol, ibuprofen and Beechams Cold-and-Flu capsules, just in case. Also taking a couple of extra sheets for the bed. I've yet to meet anyone who's been affected by swine flu.
Well say hello....Gazbag had it last week and now it's my turn.Gazbag really bad.He was in bed all week with high temp, shivers, cramps, stiffness and we couldn't keep up wih the amount of times he needed the loo.Good job we have 2!! I feel very drowsey, sick, stomach cramps,I'm sweating like a pig .It really is very nasty.I can't say it's as bad as normal flu because I've had that and was nocked off my feet for a few weeks. But I do feel ill,and have to keep going because fingers crossed we go away on Sat.I really do want to go to bed but a womans work is never done.I have told my family to keep away. And I've not been out.I'm trying not to spread it.You do need loads of meds though!!
Paracetamol for pains and aches, and to reduce temperature if I have a fever Sudafed (on its own without paracetamol) for unblocking my nose Pholcodine Linctus (the original formulation and not the sugar free one as it tastes better IMHO) for tickly dry cough Imodium/Loperamide for upset tummy
I do not like using combination remedies personally as I believe they are expensive and not always effective in treating all the symptoms.

i have it too and feel so so ill. Went to drs cos thought i had tonsilitis but no, apparently its swine flu. So now i am holed up in my houseo n my own so nobody else gets it and i am aching everywhere and seem to have slept so much in the last 2 days!
And then my friend rang tonight and she has it too.
Seems i have only just got rid of the campylabacter i had and now this, anm really quite fed up about it,
Yes, what a ridiculous rule that is. When we stocked up yesterday I took the offending two extra items out of the trolley, put them in a basket, and paid for them in cash instead - and apparently that satisfied the rules! They just have to be on a separate receipt!
All 5 of us caught swine flu, it was very much the same as seasonal flu (hot-cold shivers etc) albeit we all were left with nasty chesty coughs (and voice loss) for a week or more after. Fortunately our children's symptoms were less severe than ours. We parents felt horrendous for a few days and then slightly more alive for a few more. The children had fever for 48hrs max. (youngest 3yrs and eldest 9yrs) and they bounced back quickly with lots of cold flannels & calpol. Lucky for us we were still at home. Much empathy to anyone poorly on holiday.
DH has an ongoing condition that causes much pain. A few years ago he was horrified by the price (and relative unavailability) of common or garden paracetamol in France, so now we go all pilled up. This year we took Beechams etc too just in case. On the way to the Tunnel listening to Jeremy Vine on the subject of piggy flu my throat actually got red and my joints started to ache but I was fine in half an hour or so. After 2 weeks without the media hype I found the constant bulletins thus afternoon on R2 were irritating rather than life-threatening. (Yea, I know I'm neurotic but I don't know why our media gets so hyper about anything and everything).
The reason it's hard to buy painkillers in any quantity in UK supermarkets is because they are a really slow and horrible way to die. It mightn't seem like much of a deterrent, but if it works now and again .....
Also, if anyone's interested, coffee enhances the effect of paracetamol and ibuprofen. This is called synergy and is why there is caffeine in things like Beechams.
