We are hoping to get a weekend away in November and want to go to France but leave the caravan at home (intentionally - not just forget to hook it up and drive off without it!) and book into a family room at a cheapish hotel possibly in Lille.

Had intended travelling across using Eurotunnel as I hate ferries - bring on the sick bag, claustrophoia on the car deck and pushing and shoving chavs up and down the stairwells etc. etc. No thank you.

However someone my oh was talking to yesterday said "why don't you go across on the Sea Cat from Dover to Boulogne". Has anyone any experience of doing this? Is it any quicker than the ferry from Dover to Calais as if not then I'm deffo not even entertaining the idea. Where would I find out about cost etc.?

Grateful for any help or advice as always.

If you vom on ferries you will turn yourself inside out on a cat - they are notorious for assisting weight loss

I used speedferies cat several times - quick and economical - before they went bust

Use the tunnel 35 mins and no sea sickness we go every year we paid for the car this year £40 return.

On the one day every 3 years when the Channel is like a mirror you will have a fast and enjoyable crossing.

Under more normal sea conditions it will vary between unpleasant and unbearable.

If the Channel is in a really bad mood the interior of the craft will resemble something out of Dante's Inferno.  I do not suffer much from mal de mer but I vividly recall one crossing when the only reason that I did not lose my breakfast (not to mention supper and lunch from the previous day) was because I managed to find a space on the tiny deck outside and the staff onboard were doing their work with one hand and holding a sick bag in the other.
