Macdonalds and Starbucks have free wifi and many campsites have free or low cost connection, usually in the bar area. If you are a BT internet subscriber and have joined the BT Open Zone you can see a map of other BT Open Zone members wifi spots in your holiday area. If you only want to check emails, bank balance etc then you just park in that street and piggyback onto that members wifi. It is quite widespread as I checked the area I am going to next week and it came up with a map of 40 or so wifi spots.

My laptop has travelled with me for a few years now. I generally plot my campsites by whether they have WiFi access as many of them now have. Its not always possible but I reckon that about 75% of the sites we use have some sort of wireless connection. Cost can vary at lot from free to about €8 an hour. I also take my Vodafone Dongle with me and that costs £5 for 24 hours use but limited to 25mb download.

In France almost every McDonalds had free wifi access. My wife would park me up in one of them and head off shopping with the kids, one time she left me there for two hours but I thought she was only gone about ten minutes!
