in summary, the south east gets the best wether meteo statistics confirm this. Need to drive at least 8hours solid to alps region and beyond to get better weather.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Thanks guys, that has really put my mind at rest as we wouldn't be spending a great deal of time in the tent during the day. I think I would like to stick to the West coast for our first trip, so we will have to sit down and think about how many hours we want to drive (which thank you to all the advice) we will keep to a limitation and then work it out from there.
I suppose at the end of the day it will be just bad luck if we get rain but hey, the experience of it all will set us in good stead for future holidays in France and hopefully my DD will have outgrown her travel sickness!
Sometimes I just wish I wasn't afraid of flying but having said that I wouldn't be able to take my tent with me!!
Hi Sue,
Even if the weather is a bit "iffey" there's so much more to France. Great food especially seafood on the West Coast. The home of oyster and mussel production in France as well as other shellfish delights, great wines especially the whites from around the Loire area, reds further down ie Bordeaux and fantastic cheeses from all over. Try Livarot as a great alternative to camembert and brie
Between La Rochelle and Bordeaux is Cognac for brandy and a fabulous spin-off called Pineau.
Now tell me you don't like seafood.........!!!!!!LOL
In the days we used to go to Provence, 1 week to get there, 3 weeks there, 1 week to get back - and if you want to extend your holiday by one week, why not take a trip into Italy. Weather: glorious!
