Le Capeyrou at beynac is a nice site on the Dordogne river. Might be a bit pricey and you will need to book. We stayed there in July this year. Worth a look though.

Hi jaiash
How did you get on, it would have been very strange without Thierry there, how is his father coping?

I second the Le Capeyrou site in Beynac. Just back today from France and the site was great. Easy acces to canoeing. Nice site next to river and Beynac just a short walk to the centre.

Ina - It did seem a bit odd with out him cycling around!  Jean-Claude seemed quite cheerful but I guess they were all a bit fed up of people mentioning his tragic accident and they put up a photo in reception thanking everyone for their thoughts.  The site didn't seem as well turned out as usual but after our first few days quite a few more helpers appeared and things ( esp the bins) were soon sorted.

Air Chateau does not operate fron the site any longer - no great surprise.  J-C has a new lady friend to whom we were introduced on arrival.  He seems to have a life goes on approach. He's built a fabulous conservatory style thing on the end of the farmhouse and put the hot-tub in it.  Also they seem to have restarted the 'Chambres' business within the farmhouse.  It was quite busy.  It's the first time we've been outside of the school hols and the site seemed very different to us not so many large family groups- but still our favourite site in the area by a long long way.

Jaiash- thanks for the update. I suppose it is inevitable that people mention the accident, a lot of people knew him, and so they can't NOT mention it the next time they go to the site. Equally, I can understand them getting fed up of it, but I guess this first year will be the worst where that is concerned, and next year won't be the same.

Not surprised that Air Chateau no longer operates from the site. As for JC having a new lady friend, I'm glad that he has, not everybody would be able to have that sort of attitude, but at the end of the day he is right: life DOES go on. Sounds like he has made some changes already, good luck to him.

The muncipal site in St Julien de Lampon is good too. It's on the river Dordogne with a very nice swimming spot/current and playing area also on the river. All pitches under the trees for shade. There is another simpler campsite further in the village, greener, but with a less attractive shoreline.

We stayed at a great site in Grolejac (near Domme) - 'Camping du lac' . The site is spacious with big shaded pitches and right next to the sandy beach at a pretty lake. It's about 2km from the Dordogne river and in a great spot to see all the sights of the area. We were 15Euros a night for a tent and family of 4. Great value! It used to be a municipal site but was bought over this year by a lovely couple who speak good English.
