Hi everyone

We are planning to go to France next August for 6 weeks.Is it just the first 2 weeks of August that are the busiest? We plan to fly out of Oz on about the 15th August,so hopefully that will be good timing.It,s been very interesting reading all about the star rating for campsites ( the rating system is different over here...a 1 or 2 star site wouldn,t be very good at all ) we want to stay in fairly quiet sites,but in a static as we won,t be bringing the tent etc. with us,but still want to enjoy the "camping" experience.We have 2 children...10 and 3 yrs, so as long as it,s got a pool and a small playground we would be happy.Do you think that we would have to book in advance,as we will want a static? We plan to start off in Paris..then over to the Loire,then the South of France.

I think you will probably get more response if you post this as a new topic. Camping in France is usually busy until the last week in August, when you find site fees begin to be discounted, and some sites even begin to close down from Sept. as demand is much less. The weather is still good, by UK standards, from the Loire southwards. I would book for the first week of your holiday to be sure of having a starting point, and a bed for the night!

Thanks minicamper,I hope not too many of them close in September.I guess we might have to look at alternative accomodation.Not too keen on staying in hotels though...maybe we could rent a cottage,at least we,ve got plenty of time to work it all out.

we've just come back from 4 vents, the site is lovely with huge pitches, BUT the pool is deep with no shallow end and is freezing! We had to swim with our 2 to make sure they were safe.

Yeah, you're right about the pool, we don't have kids so it didn't even cross my mind that it isn't really suitable. It is really cold too, however it was sooo hot when we were there we really welcomed it and it did warm up later in the day with the sun on it. Mmmm the pain au chocolat......
