Hi All

My wife is currently in Spain in our touring caravan, she has rang me this morning and told me our 10 year old son has scratched a car with his bike handlebar.

The car is a hertz renta car and is being rented by a Dutch family who by all accounts are vaery nice. The car was half on half off the pitch they are renting so the question is what insurance if any can I claim on or is it claimable?

We have caravan club insurance for the van, Red pennant for holiday and travelling because the van is 8m and our car insurance.

Any help greatfully recieved

Regards

Dean

I would suggest in the first instance that you ring the number in your paperwork for Red Pennant/Caravan Club ins and ask their advice.  We have just come back from 3 weeks in France with the same insurance (thankfully without the need to claim).  We received an ACSI camping card with all the documentation and I'm sure this had liability insurance with it.

it's the CCI card with the insurance, not the ACSi card.  Do the Dutch people have fully comp insurance on the hire car?  If they have then the scratch might not cost them anything. Worth finding out.

Spoke with The Caravan Club

I have to send them our Camping Carnet cards just waiting on my wife to pick up the phone (busy shedule out there in Spain pool and all) to find out if we have the correct cards.

Otherwise just have to wait and see what happens with various insurances and if we are covered ?

Thanks for the responces

Your travel insurance should cover this under the 'Personal Liability or Third Party Liability' section.

Jaymac, even with comp insuarnce, there are often pretty heavy excesses on Hire Cars unless they paid extra to cover them.

I knew it was one of the cards!!  I wasn't at home when I posted my response so didn't have the stuff to hand. Thanks for correcting that jaymac.
