hello and welcome. The campsite search facility on here now includes sites in France and other parts of europe, they also have reviews from members who have been to them which will give you a good idea
I first camped at the site below in 1962, and have been back a few times since, it is yards from the beach, and very handy for Nice, Cannes and Antibes, the bus to Nice Airpot is 1Euro!, there is a train station outside the site 10Euro gets you to Monaco, basic site, but cheap for the Cote d Azur.
Have you bought any Camping Cheques? there are loads of sites on the Med which acccept them in low season (but watch out for the closing dates/swimming pool dates if this matters). I assume you have booked ferry or tunnel, if not, Norfolk Lines (and probably other ferry companies) will give you 3 "free" cheques with a ferry booking (you need to specify the number you need, and 3 of these are free). Cheques booked with ferry cost £11.95 each.
We had fantastic time on Les Criques de Porteil near Collioure.see reviews of iton here, mine should be there by now! Overlooks Med. if you choose this ask for a sea view pitch as some are down in valley.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Most of the coastal sites ive looked at seem to be the crash bang wallop touristy ones. Is Les Criques similar in feel to Le Port limueil cos id be interesting in finding a southern site which was a bit less in your face?
A lot of sites are crammed in, especially near to beaches, I learn't my lesson and now i always check the aerial pictures on google first, thats after taking advice on here! some you will struggle to get the van/awning and car on.
We may be looking for next year for a site near Frejus that has large pitches and plenty of open spaces, any ideas? We loved that area last year but the site was crammed, now if only we could move our site from this year on the vendee to the south coast, that would be perfect!
Les Criques is most certainly not in your face. It's a Castels and Camping site so you can look it up on their web site,or on its own one. You have to wear a bracelet for the pool and they put a sticker on your vehicle but it's not in an intrusive way. There is a bar and small restaurant but it's on the edge of the site. The 2 pools are small but it's in a sheltered partof the site. The pitches do vary in size and outlook so try and choose one near the seaward end. It was so good to wake up to view of the Med every morning. There are 3 small pebbly beaches just for the site. There's a good footpath over the cliffs and a beach to Collioure and Racou Plage is smaller than Argeles as a beach and nearer. Would happily go back again. Easy drive into Spain.
