I am considering getting the ACSI dvd for next year. Can anyone tell me what kind of hardware I would need to use it to the best advantage. Do I need a full laptop, can you browse the dvd with anything else? I don't have a laptop and not sure I can justify buying one just for this. Is there a cheaper alternative?

Don't think you actually need the DVD - as far as I know all ACSI listed sites (including those not in the discount scheme) can be found under Eurocampings on the ACSI.eu website.

Shouldn't think so, but if you only want the details of the discount scheme sites you will of course have the book which includes the card.   Sorry can't be of more help.

Have an older ridge tent, by the way (1971) but must admit it hasn't been used for many years!

I have it loaded in full onto the hard drive of my laptop. There are quite a few  interactive options so how they would work on other types of machine I don't know. The  DVD is very useful for find site within 50kms of particular location.

Of course you could bring the paperback version of their camping guide on holiday...

Used it this year and got some very good discounts on many sites. I just thought it would be fun to use the DVD if I could.

Can you get hold of a cheap laptop (or even free - several have been offered/received recently on our local Freecycle)?  That would solve your problem!

As Val says a very low spec laptop would run the DVD for you and I see lots of them on our freecycle. Without a laptop there is no other way of running the DVD and the only alternative is the ACSI guide book unless you want to find internet cafes and log on to ACSI there.

Carol - don't mean to hijack the thread, but I think we've run out of suggestions!  I note you're hunting for a caravan - have you found anything yet?  Also, how was the Auvergne (I know it was hot!!!)  We love the sun but this year had to stop early on our journey south as it was just too hot to continue so we stayed up in the high Lozere for two nights to cool down!
