Hi, I have a vodafone dongle and have used it abroad. When in the south of france last August I used my dongle. The charge when abroad is £10.99 per calender day so not cheap but if you want security and be in your own caravan you could use the dongle at any time during the 24hr period. It;s not the cheapest around but it did work and I did all my business and chatting in the one day. Hope this helps you. Jan

Thanks for this. I would prefer to use in the van and have noted the security issue just mentioned by David. I may have to do as you suggest and speak to family and do banking, surfing camp sites etc all on the same day. Sorry to ask such simple questions.but does the days' charge cover just the hire of wifi line or include cost of calls?
We have used our own laptop on campsites in France, either for free at some, or just buying wifi time from the campsite average cost say 30 mins for 2€. You can use this up over 2 or 3 sessions They don't seem to have download limits, just time limits. So you could chat with family on MSN at pre-arranged times etc. Don't want you missing out on the grandkids!
Hi Carol, I have a monthly account with vodafone for the dongle but i'm afraid when using abroad you pay the extra £11.99 as I said for the 24 hour period but that is all you pay. If you talk via msn on messenger then that is included and there is no time limit on the call so long as you are calling computer to computer. I know when is Spain I can buy a months ticket from some of the campsites we stay at and they are priced per day/week/fortnight/month. Haven't seen this at any of the french sites we've stayed at tho. Hope this helps. Jan

in france orange do a pay as you go for around 12euros a month,as long as you don't do downloads just surf and talk it works fine.it is called max internet intense.you must have a multi media phone for it to connect though and buy a french pay as you go sim card from the supermarkets.
we only found out about this as our season was ending but carrefour will be the first place to visit next year.
Just an update, I have bought a Dell notebook from Amazon and hope to receive it on Wednesday. I have a despatch number etc but I can not find any of the same listed for sale now. Hoping that I am not going to have a problem!
Carol
