There was mention of a link between C&CC and ACSI to replace freedom camping. Does this mean C&CC members will get a deal on the ACSI guide from them, or should I just order a 2010 card from ACSI via Vicarious books?

C&CC members had to pay for the freedom camping guide, it was  £11.95 this year I think so it's unlikely there'll be a deal.C&CC are even charging for their winter sun brochure though the summer one was free.

Hi there, spoke to a carefree rep at the caravan show last sunday and they will order you the guide and send it out to you sometime in dec for the guide price of £11.50.  I believe there is another thread on here regarding this subject and they have a promotion code to get a pound off via vicarious books, so it seems it will be cheaper to get the guide via the online bookshop.  Jan

Thanks,Jaymac

I guess I was wondering if it will just be that members will be directed to the regular ACSI card scheme which is available to the general public, or whether there will be different book/card scheme exclusively for C&CC members to replace Freedom Camping. Otherwise, what would a tie up look like I wonder? I haven't heard it mentioned, except on this forum, has anyone else? Looking in the online Winter sun brochure, I couldn't find any mention of it. That's surprising, when many wintersun campers use the ACSI right from the start of the year, so would want/need the info now if they are to get the benefit of a tie-up with ACSI before making their plans for Jan-Feb-Mar 2010.

Have seen a copy of the book and it's the same with no mention of being a joint venture with the C & CClub.  What the rep said tho was to phone carefree and order your copy and it would bw sent out in dec in time for any of us who will be going abroad in the winter.  We are sailing on dec 28th to St Malo and will be travelling down through France into Spain and onto Portugal and the rep did say if we ordered the guide we would have it before we left.  Hope this helps you. One problem is that the ACSI Book is not published until mid December and I can't imagine that they will bring out a special book unless it has the CC&C logo on the cover. The participating sites will still want their regular income and its difficult to think that the CC&C will subsidise the prices. Having said that members will have a far greater choice than they have now so perhaps that is the main benefit. Its a good system.

Greetings minicamper,

I believe I was the one who originally put this on this site.

It came about because I wanted to know exactly which sites were in the Freedom Camping book before I splashed out the cash and the rep at C&CC said to me that they were going into cahoots with ACSI for next year. She didn't have any details though.

I would guess that C&CC have 'gone into cahoots' with ACSI in the same way as the Caravan Club sell Camping Cheques - it saves them doing the work of finding sites to join 'their' scheme, and marketing these separately - but provides a service to members.  Buying Camping Cheques from the Caravan Club (only available if you book a ferry through them) does save you the £6.00 administration charge so is a benefit to members.

Thanks everyone

So you are suggesting that there will be no actual extra benefit to members of the C&CC, they will just be directed towards the ACSI scheme.

I have been a great fan of the scheme since it started, and have used it every year anyway. I just didn't want to order my 2010 card and find I was duplicating something the C&CC were involved in for their members benefit.

This thread made me look at the C&CC site for info, of course I couldn't find anything useful but noticed that their winter camping brochure is now £10 though you can view it online. Some of the  campsite prices in it seem very good, especially for long term stays.

That all reminded me that the CC were going to do a winter brochure. In fact I requested a copy which I think they said would be sent out in July. has anyone received one? Still waiting for mine but it's also online and actually available as a download so I've been skimming through that too.

June

I ordered one online and it arrived whilst we were away. The process for getting one was a bit strange as it was like ordering any other book from them but with a zero figure in the cost. Strange I thought.

Thanks for that information, David. I 'll try again then. I filled in the original "request by email" months ago then again when nothing arrived. I much prefer browsing through a paper copy rather than online.

What other travel agent charges for their Brochures, and they are a travel agency now , not a club. Iv'e been a member for forty years and over the last few years all they are interested in profit. If you look at their winter brochure, it no longer includes the ferry price or insurance, as it did not that long ago, last year it included the ferry In the rally prices but not this year, so I shall book direct with the sites, it can be cheaper. It was also formed as a touring club, so where does the new static vans come in, less room for us tourers.

Disgruntled.

To be fair to the Camping and Caravanning Club, the advert for the Winter Sun guide states " Book a holiday and get your £10 back." This means that as a member I'm not subsiding the costs of printing and distribution to others who have little intention of booking (since in many cases they can use the website version). Perhaps more important are the wider environmental savings.

If after paying for the brochure you find there is nothing in it to interest you in the way of sites or rallies, you are £10 out of pocket. Two years ago they were free, last year £5, £10 this year that's a 100% increase.
