Hi,
Can anybody reccommend the cheapest ferry operator over to St Malo or the best alternative route down to Poitou Charentes please?
Also I heard about some offer for £99 if you book before the end of October. Does anybody know about this?
Many thanks for any assistance.

Lee.

I did a search on this earlier in the year. The cheapest ferry route to St Malo travelling in Auguct 09 was via Condor Ferries. They sometimes stop off at one of the channel islands for a few hours but if St Malo is 'a must' then they were actually the cheapest by some distance.  We went from weymouth and came back into Poole.

You need to check all the ferry operators websites. They all have online booking systems so you can get quotes for the dates you want. I doubt you will get £99 for a St Malo crossing or any other western channel route. you will get well under £100 return for a car on the Dover routes.

If you google separately the following..P&O, Brittany Ferries, LD Lines, Seafrance, Norfolkline, you will find the ferry operators websites.

For Poitou- Charentes we always used to use Cherbourg from Portsmouth but since P&O pulled out of the route it is way too expensive, next summer seems to be £590 for car and van and that's without booking a cabinor seats.  Since the P&O pull out we go to Calais or Dunkerque.  At present a car and van up to 12m total length will cost £58 with Norfolkline so long as the offer code TEF04 is still working - it was supposed to cease over a week ago but was working a couple of days ago.  We then travel via Rouen - Le Mans - Tours and into Poitou, generally staying for an overnight at Neuville sur Sarthe - Camping le Vieux Moulin - which is just north of Le Mans.  You can do this route on N roads - cheaper, or pay and use motorways - bit quicker slightly less hassle but expensive.

Depends how rich you are feeling and how pushed for time you are.  We have a 5-6 week holiday so we meander a bit.

We go to Poitou-Charentes(to Les Peupliers.) We've done the Condor to St Malo a couple of times, and the Portsmouth to Le Havre. This year we went by Eurotunnel and used our Tesco tokens. It's a toss up really. The fast ferry's great, the overnight ferry (with cabin) is a lovely start to a holiday. But, even including extra petrol and an overnight stop, it's just a bit cheaper by Eurotunnel. This year it was about £150 cheaper.

At the moment Norfolk Line are offering some really good deals  from Dover to Dunkerque, but this involves a much longer journey to Poitou Charente - via Abbeville, Rouen, Le Mans, and then on to your destination.

I would have thought, though, that if you have the time for perhaps an extra overnight stop each way, you'd more than save the difference in the ferry crossting.  I would have thought that to St Malo you'd not have much change from £500, where we've just booked from Dover to Dunkerque for £58 return for car and caravan.
