Can anyone recommend a good pyrenees site , not all singing and dancing but with pool and basics for us in camper van please? Also how long would it take from wherever in Pyrenees down to South French coast in June?

Thanks a lot

Hi Bridie,

Which direction are you coming from?We started at Santandere, then over to St Jean de Luz.Then through the pyrenees, over to Carcassonne, then on to Frontignon. We found a basic site at La Bastide de Serreau.Looked rather scruffy, but clean facilities, small pool, and half way up a mountain. From there to Carcassonne took all morning, with stops on the way at Foix and Mirepoix.Carcassonne to Frontignon, another morning, stopping at Castelnaudry.

Campsite at Frontignon was Camping Club du Soleleil, two mins from the Med.

We have stayed at Le Montagnou in the Ustou valley which I reckon is probably the most beautiful valley in the Pyrenees. It has no pool but who needs a pool when you can share the river with Trout and Kingfishers. The campsite has been reviewed on this site

Smiffymob, thanks ,this looks great. I've ben on their web site to check it out and found other reviews praising it too. Is the river easy to swim in? I'm a bit of a coward at river swimming...like to see the bottom! Did you get to see the swimming pool in the village nearby, indoor/outdoor? What was the weather like? We're hoping to be there in June sometime and while we want to see something of the Pyrenees have previously backed out in case weather is bad...we DO like the sun! Looking to travel on through Foix to the Med somewhere so would be easily doable ,both travelling down and across.

Check out the ACSI card sites in the area, in June you will get a good selection of good value sites at 11, 13 or 15€ a night for 2 including elec.

there were 60+ in each of the areas you mention in the 2009 guide.

We stayed here in August earlier this year, fantastic site and will certainly be back, Pascal and his wife are excellent as are all the staff, fantastic greetings from Pascal when he saw our car pulling up outside the reception even calling us by our name.  He was sitting waiting on our arrival being a little late in the evening after our dash down from Calais.
