Hi we are hoping to travel to the Liguria region of Italy next summer and was wondering if anyone has done this and has suggestions of campsites to stop off at on the way down in France or Switzerland (the route goes through Champagne and Geneva). We have a son who will be 20 months by then. Thanks

Hi - welcome to UKCS.  I'm sure someone will come along soon, and give you some advice about routes and stop-over sites.

Perhaps we could do with a bit more information - how much driving time do you have until your first stop-over - how many stop-overs, and are you towing or in a tent?  That will give more of a clue as to which site(s) (or hotels if you're in a tent - lots of people choose this option rather than set up tent every night) to recommend.

I know you require a vignette to travel on the motorways through Switzerland, and if you're towing you'll also require one for the caravan.

Hi

We went down to Tuscany this year in September and even then had great difficulty finding campsites in the south of France that would accept bookings on our ACSI card for overnight stops. We started from Marmonde where our camper is stored at a friends house and our first stay was at a municipal site at Le Loupian. We then drove into Italy and stayed the other side of Genua at a site near Albengia.

On the way back we stayed at a lovely site near Sommieres ( Montpellier area ) called Domaine de Maserau.

As Val A says a lot depends on how far you want to travel each day. I would suggest getting the ACSI booklet when it comes out in December so you can plan you journey.

Hi thanks for the information...I will find out more about the ACSI?

We are travelling in a Mazda Bongo with a small child. We were thinking of driving to Reims on the first day and then onto Geneva (or surrounding area) where we thought we could stop for a couple of nights. We are not in a huge rush to get to Italy and don't really want to travel much more than 5 hours a day because of the little one.

Thanks

We have one of the euro-lottery winners here on UKCS.

Why not forget about going through Swiss and just go through Mont Blanc? You might even get a dvd that they give away.

If you are serious about going through Swiss you can get to it virtually toll free via Luxembourg and then N57.
