Having dismissed LD Lines for my 2010 summer holiday due to cost, I noticed their prices seem to have dropped.

When I last checked the price was over £800 for my trip. It's now now to around £550. Still more than last year, but much lower. The big difference is the overnight cabin being much cheaper. I actually wonder if the website prices were originally incorrect? Last year you had to select '4' from the drop down menu if you wanted 1 x 4 person cabin. This year you just select '1'. My guess is that they changed the selectable option without changing the cost structure that feeds into it. When prices were launched last month I think they were pricing up 4 cabins when you just wanted 1.

Oh well, too late now. Booked Norfolk Lines now and saved over £450 in the process so it can't be all bad.

Tom

Its quite normal for ferry companies to drop their prices, generally its better to book Jan/Feb rather than when next yrs prices are first announced. You may or may not get special offers in May that are even cheaper, it depends on the amount of bookings they get.

As Laurent says, I think the companies price up their crossings at this time of year according to what they think the market will stand.   Next year's costs are almost bound to be more expensive because of the euro and fuel prices.  Then the ferry companies await bookings. I can imagine that because prices have gone up so much not as many people as normal have actually booked - so they've had a strategic rethink and brought prices down a little.

That's with the exception of Norfolk Line - who seem to operate the 'Put up a really cheap offer and get as many booked crossings as possible as early in the season as you can' trading mode.  Lots of us benefitted from the £58.00 return crossings via the Caravan Club or the code offered by Norfolk Line at the Caravan Show.

Hi I have just been onto the LD Lines web site and checked prices again, when I last looked it would cost me £592 for myself, oh car and caravan in august 2010, the same dates have gone up its now £610.

Last year you could get a 2 birth cabin, this year only 4 beths are showing, I think LD have changed there ferries and hiked up the prices along the way.

We have booked norfolk at £82 return, even with a longer drive and 2 stopovers it still works out at less than half the LD price, no contest.
