Has anyone got any suggestions for good campsites that take tents near to Ypres and are close to public transport. Hoping to go in may using public transport from Calais to the Ypres area for a short tour of WWI sites. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The campsite in Ypres is http://www.jeugdstadion.be/ unfortunately it appears to be closed for refurbishment until end of June 2010. The Belguim tourist office http://www.visitbelgium.com/ will send you info on specific areas tho.
I highly recommend 'Camping YPRA' at Kemmel, only a few miles from Ypres. Lovely site near small village with excellent walks/cycling routes and a museum in the tourist office. Great for WW1 sites etc... Bus service to Ypres.
BTW, It's Ieper, not Leper, but I know that's what it looks like.

As an alternative, why not try YHA's?
The European ones are very modern, relaxed and very well organised. They even have twin/double rooms with their own showers. We used them on a tour of Belgium some years ago.
Jim.
I've stopped at Camping Ypra twice, both times in winter. I would check first with them as to weather they take tents. I never saw any although I would'nt expect to in winter but I don't remember seeing anywhere that they might use to pitch them.
There is a bus stop right outside the site and I agree, it's a great place for 1st WW history with some British bunkers dug into the hill side just behind the site on the hill.
