We are taking the caravan to France for the first time in June and would like to stay somewhere near St.Valery-sur-Somme.

We think we have narrowed our search down to three sites, which all have the amenities are are looking for, they are

Chateau de Drancourt

Le Clos Cacheleux

Camping le Champ Neuf

However, there is no review of Le Clos Cachleux, and Camping le Champ Neuf doesn't appear to be listed, so if anyone has any comments or reviews on these two sites it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Chateau du Drancourt and Le Champ Neuf take the ACSI card right through June, meaning your pitch, two people, car, caravan, awning and electricity would cost 15 euros per night.  Drancourt is (or was?) a site with Eurocamp and Canvas Holidays on site, but in June is likely to be reasonably quiet compared to high season.  We stayed there some years ago, but haven't been back since.

I've no experience of the other two sites, but Le Champ Neuf looks very nice from the website.  It's right in the middle of an area which is great for birdwatching, which we enjoy, so I've bookmarked it for future stays!

Hi Val,

Yes we intend to make use of the ACSI card, all three infact accept ACSI. I have emailed both Chateau de Drancourt and Le Clos Cacheleux, who have confirmed they have availability, which is no suprise as it's a June booking.

We like the reviews of Chateau de Drancourt, but think it may be a little too commerical with the amount of statics. Hopefully I will be proved wrong?  My OH is concerned that with the other two sites we would be the only Brits on site.  To be honest, it doesn't bother me, but she feels that at least one or two other Bristish couples/families would be nice.

Hi The Saint.

We stayed at Drancourt last May. We did not find it too commercialised but did find it very quiet. The surrounding area is quite pretty and nice to drive round, there are nice walks around the site but it is quite far to walk into St Valery, With the site being quiet we found that the toilet block was limited ie. ladies and gents shared facilities and the bar was only open at evenings for a limited time as was the take away. The restaurant was also only open at weekends. We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on the quality or prices, but in the bar it was 7.20 euros for pint and half lager. There are a couple of supermarkets in driving distance that were very reasonable however.

We did say that if we returned to the area we would definately stop there again as long as it was later in the season, which you seem to be doing, when hopefully all of the amenities are open.

Hope this gives you some ideas to think about and that you enjoy it if you decide to go.

Hi Robertskd,

Many thanks for your reply, that was just the sort of information we were looking for about the site, it's good to hear that it's not too commercialised .   We don't mind the site being quite. To be honest, whilst it's great to have a bar & restaurant on site, which we would make use of, we certainly wouldn't be using them every day.  7.20 euros does seem expensive, but that is to be expected on site I suppose.

We are normally out in the days, returning late in the afternoon, so the bar only opening in the evenings wouldn't be a problem.

Thats helped us make our mind up, and thanks again.

Alan.
