never camped in ireland, but have family who live there. When camping is mentioned to them they get this bemused look in the eyes.......
I think camping is generally just catching on over there....
Have you looked on the site search on here?
I did read in Camping magazine a good review for a site in the Wicklow area

Hi Mark
This thread should really be under "Caravanning and Camping Abroad"! No doubt it will be moved by Admin and you should get a few more suggestions, Meanwhile, have a look on Camp Site Search (Overseas Campsites). Also Discoverireland.ie has a list.

Hi Mark I'm Irish (have lived in UK for 20 years) and I went camping in Kerry 2 years ago. As was mentioned most Irsih people think only crazy people camp so all my Irish family thought I was a little bit crazy. We went in August and experienced gale force winds and torrential rain which sounds about right for Irish weather. We based ourselves at O'Connors which had good basic facilities but there isn't onsite entertainment and it is a drive to the pub (worth the trip though food very good). Plenty to do and see in this area but you need to drive everywhere but Ireland is like that!!! The Cliffs of Moher, Lisdoovarna and Lahich are all within reasonable driving distance. Details of site I stayed at attached but bear in mind it is literally on the coast (you can actually see the ocean) so can be very windy. O'Connor's Riverside Camping & Caravan Park

"I think camping is generally just catching on over there...." I'm 30, Irish and have been camping in Ireland since I was a kid. Camping isn't as popular as in the UK but lots of people camp and there are a good many campsites around. It's nice that way as the good places don't get that crowded and there are loads of great smaller less well known campsites around.
My husband is from Cavan.......and the entire county seems to think we are insane for camping......but it was a generalisation...sorry

There is a site on the south east corner of Ireland near Caherdaniel,I think it may be called Wavecrest, fantastic site and location. Also check out Barleycove in West Cork. Also Westport House, Westport.Beautiful countryside, great people, you just need to be lucky with the weather. The sites do not have a lot of the facilities of european sites,i.e.entertainment,but you are never too far from the pub! Great unspoilt landscapes, unpolluted sea`s,great seafood. Hey,I nearly talked myself out of going to France this year.....,not quite. You will really enjoy Ireland.

Wavecrest is lovely, haven't stayed at the others. Went to Westport House and they wanted EUR 39 per night for a caravan with EHU and this was a few years ago, we stayed at Croagh Patrick a few miles down the road. Personally I wouldn't fancy the idea of camping under continually wet canvas (unless you are very lucky).

Barleycove is in a great location, but very remote, you need to stock up well with food.

This site http://www.camping-ireland.ie/index.html is your friend.
Please be aware though that in March, it will likely be very, very cold, and wet - and a lot of sites won't be open, Easter is a more common opening date.
Have you any idea where you want to go / what you want to see ? The Southern part fo Eire is quite big, there is the 'sunny' South East of Wexford, the hills of Wicklow, historic Kilkenny, Waterford then over on the West there is Cork, Kerry, Clare and Galway - all of these are decent places to visit for a week and they all have their own selling points.
Hand on heart - at that time of year I would use B&Bs or hostels.
