Lots of lovely places to visit on your way through France - go down the N roads until you get to the A75, which is free all the way to Montpellier, and a lovely road, through some fantastic country, with great sites along the way.
Go out of season and get yourself an ACSI card and some Camping Cheques (dates on the website are in the American format, with wrong way month and day - but they're working on it), - you get campsite guides with both and you'll pay no more than 15 euros per night including electricity. There are other municipal sites which can be found for very little - the Caravan Club Camping Europe is a good book to have.
We've been known, in the past, to put a ruler on two places on a map and try and follow whatever 'colour' road is nearest to a straight line - and we've found some fabulous places that way. Some roads we wouldn't go back on, but others provide some very convenient routes away from the madding crowd.
