Hi

We are going to France on 8th Aug for 21 nights, with 20 of these on sites with our own bathroom (L'Oree du Bois and Haliotis).  Two adults and 15yo - Ferry with Club Class Lounge and site fees - £1300.  This is made up of nights at 60 euros per night and some on Camping cheques - but we think this is reasonabe for three of us in the school hols.  We choose our sites because of the range of facilities on offer.

I suppose it just depends on the type of site you want and what your personal budget is - we don't eat out a lot when we are away, just usually BBQ at the van most evenings.  So I suppose our spends may be less than someone paying cheaper for their site fees.

If we wanted to have a similar standard site in this country, I'm sure it would be £50+ in peak season - so not a big difference.

Hopefully with a bit of searching and research we can all find something to suit?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Hi Val - thanks for the extra info, you are a wealth of knowledge as usual, seems we miss the b/hol wknd so thats good. The jury in our house is still 'out' on the site choice. I'm still looking at ACSI and touring cheques and I've also see a couple of sites where the nightly rate at that time of year is actually only a couple of euro's more a night that c/chqs would be so they are possibles.

Sue - lovely to hear from you again.....we looked at L'Oree du bois but by the time they had added the various supplements on and us choosing a bathroom etc the supplements worked out more than the camping cheques and ferry combined so we put that on the bottom of the list for now! We do however think we will use Haliotis on the way back....we will be there from Friday 3rd, leaving Monday 6th.

I think there really is a site to suit everyone's requirements and budget, it just takes research, patience and the odd compromise...a well as lots of help and ideas from the wonderful ladies and gentleman that are on this forum!!

Pumpkin

We've been spoilt with the on-pitch bathrooms at L'Oree du Bois - but I know what you mean about the supplements!  We were going to try and make it as cheap as poss this year but then I kept going back to the website - and in no time I had convinced myself it was for the best. Maybe next year!!!

We will be at Haliotis on 27/8 and 28/8 so won't be able to catch up this year. We will have to look out for each other in this country!
