HI I am new to this site and hoping someone will be able to give me some advice on camp sites in France.

We are planning to drive to southern Brittany for a camping holiday and we have decided to break up the journey by stopping at a site on route and stay for a couple of nights then travel to a site in southern Brittany stay for about a week then do the same on the return journey.

We have not as yet decided where in southern Brittany to stay but we are hoping someone could recommend some sites for us.

Many thanks

Mark

Welcome to UKCS Mark - you'll get some really good advice on here both about sites, and stopovers.  We haven't done Southern Brittany ourselves, but there are many others who have and I'm sure someone will be along soon to help out.

Are you travelling in peak season (mid-July to mid-August) or outside those dates.  It can often be cheaper in lower season, easier to find pitches and get the pick of the bunch!

Welcome also. South Brittany is great, especially around Bénodet. How are you getting there?

I posted some ideas in this thread.

Hi thanks all for the responses, as we have young children we are going peak season 14 of August for two weeks.

We are going with some friends in two cars taking the Dover ferry to Dunquirk then drive down to Brittany.

The ferry doesnt get in till 7pm so we will be looking for some reasonably priced accommadation for the night so we can have a fresh start the next morning.

Try Cybevasion for hotels. There are loads of budget chains to choose from - France is much better endowed than UK for this.

Have you booked the ferry? We have used the Poole St-Malo ferry (yes the Vomit Comet!) for several years. More expensive than Dover Dunkirk but slightly less distance (probably) for you in the UK and will save probably 150€ in fuel (each car) and 2 days of travelling. Driving in France is easy so the distance not a problem, it's the time on the road that factors heavily in my equation.

By the way, that weekend is one of the busiest on the roads in France - it is the traditional end of the Summer hols. More chance of a snarl up on a long run - partcularly as you have to go past Paris.

Hi thanks for the help, yes we have booked the ferry Dover to Dunkirk so we just need to sort our route.

Thanks for the info about the busiest weekend, will probably try and avoid paris.
