Hello all i'm looking for a little advice and direction as to where i would be a good choice for our next holiday in france... we went to les brevedent (camping les castle) last summer and really enjoyed the whole trip, loveley site, great weather and a great location- we would love to go back but only have a short break this year (4days), and are looking for somewhere within maybe a 1.5 hour drive of calais,,
usually we'd drive on straight through this area but i'm sure there are many sites around with nearby attractions and with it being our only get away this year i don't really want to take a gamble! somewhere between boulogne and the belgium border i'm guessing?
any ideas or previous experiences that you may have in this area would really be appreciated!! i have looked through reviews of a few sites but conflicting opinions have me confused!
Cheers, Jack

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
The bit between Calais & beyond the Belgium border ain't that special. either keep driving until you get to the Zeeland province of Holland(about 2hrs from Calais)or turn right at Calais & get down beyond Le Touquet, Berk is ok or go a bit further to the Baie-de-Somme, which is probabley yer best bet.
Chateau du Gandspette at Eperlecques might fit your bill - 25 minutes from Calais or Dunkerque, good on-site facilities, including a bar and restaurant. Sanitary facilities are good - especially the block in the newer area. The Blockhaus at Eperlecques is worth a visit (where the V bomb were built and launched), as is La Cupole at St Omer, the market in St Omer and the canals around - good cycling country, and the little town of Cassels (on the only hilltop around) is nice for a trip out. You're near enough to go to the beaches towards Boulogne, too.
If you're going between 1st April and 9th July, or after 1st Septemer up to 30th September, then you could also use Camping Cheques (www.campingcheque.co.uk) They also have a special offer of 7 nights for 6 Camping Cheques, if you can squeeze in a few extra days!!
We enjoyed a nice short break at camping Nieuwpoort which is an hour from Calais in Belguim, good facilities, good beaches nearby and in Brugge one of my favourite cities in Europe closeby. We have also enjoyed staying in the baie of the somme area but like many just passing through, always seemed nice.Flown into le touquet (brothers a pilot) for a few day trips and thats pleasent aswell.
I agree with Val - there are loads of things to see and do in the area near St Omer and Epileques.
As well as the Blockhaus, there is the Boat lift at Fontinettes near Arques, which was used to replace 5 locks.
We did a visit of the Cristal d'Arques Factory a while back, but not sure if this still operates. Fascinating!
If you are interested in WW1, Albert has an interesting underground museum about the war.
In fact you won't be able to fit it all in in 4 days!
Great stuff, thanks everyone i'll check them out after tea! currentley fighting the urge to go camping in a couple of weeks, hope the weather cheers up!!
