Hi can anyone recommend a campsite off the A71 between 300 and 350 miles down from Le Havre?  We are travelling 600miles in total and would  like to stop at just past half way - always makes you a feel a bit better about the next days slog! thanks for your help

Le Clos Auroy near junction 5 Orcet just south of Clermont Ferrand is a good overnight halt but is also a popular site so pre-booking would be required during high season .

Hi Karen, about half way would 'Bourges' from Le Havre would be A131 - A13 - N154 A71 about 260 miles. There is a 'Camping Municipal' just on the outskirts of town quite good and should cost about 17 euros, just google 'Bourges' then the site, i stayed a couple of years ago, just the job for overnight stop, about 15 mins walk into town.

I'd second that. Very easy off the motorway.

We're heading that way too but decided to splash out on a very nice looking Chambre d'Hote, about 10 mins off the Motorway near Montlucon.
It's €87 for a family of four in a mezzanine room with breakfast, plus an extra €19 / 9 if we want an evening meal, wine/aperatifs included.
Seems quite a lot to pay but it's worth it for a real French experience. The B&B Hotel chain comes to €82 with breakast, we're using them or the return leg- can't resist their plastic croissants and my daughter loves the cereal dispenser!

Thanks everyone for your help.  I have hopefully, just waiting for confirmation, booked Le Clos Auroy.  Chose this one as it is a bit further on our journey. Site looks lovely, thanks again

Oops, too late.

Was going to recommend the very pleasant municipal Le Cheval-Blanc on the river at a small town called Meaulne http://www.allier-tourisme.com/dolce-vita/fr/camping.php?CAMPING-LE-CHEVAL-BLANC&p=839000218 , about 3 miles from Jn 9 of the A71 - would be about 300 miles from Le Havre.
