Up until about 2 weeks ago we were very happily plodding along with all good intentions of 16 nights in France this August, ferry booked...just had to decide on a site.

Then hubby dropped the bombshell that he wasnt sure he wanted to go again, and thought he might prefer 2 weeks all inclusive in the med as this would be more of a holiday for him as last year he did all the driving and most of the cooking (well the BBQ is a 'man thing'!!.... But I was so disappointed.

So we have looked and looked at package deals and cant find anything that he 'really' likes - he's so fussy!!! So he has agreed if we split the driving and cooking more then we are back on for France...yay!!!!

We are still to decide on a site and are looking with interest at the threads on La Guyonniere...but at least we are going and i am not letting him change his mind again!!!!!

Good times! The driving, ferry and camp cooking is half the adventure for us:)

Hey Pumpkin - I do all the driving, including towing the van!  Hubby has medical problem with arms and lots of driving causes him a lot of pain so it is easier all around if I do it.

Do the French bit, I find the driving there a lot easier than here.

Hi there. I have to admit I used to be a real beach slug but since having our camper van I cannot imagine a holiday doing very little anymore. OH did drive 98% of the time and then would do the cooking but I was in charge of shoppping, food prep and washing up!! 

We found some days jsut flew by if we had driven for a few hours, shopped, found a site then got set up (this takes aobut 5 minutes without awning though!!!!) then made dinner. We were often so tired we would be asleep by 10pm after a bottle of vin rouge but I can honeslty say I loved it.........

So much so we are off to do it again this year!!!

France takes some beating dosent it.

Its mine and OHs 40th birthdays next year and we've been looking at going somewhere special for two weeks instead of the usual France but tbh we cant find anything we like better than camping in France!!!

We reckon we'll probably go back to Barcelona for a week just the two of us (went last year and loved it) and then go on our usual france holiday in August.

Thanks everyone, i feel so much better now we are back to going to France....my friend called me 'funny' today cause she cant understand how i can possibly prefer camping to being waited on in a hotel....i did sit and think for a minute and i dont actually have an answer...other than 'i just do'!

I hadnt really thought about it till now, but on reflection i think i probably did do my fair share of washing up, tidying, bed airing and making...and i had no problem getting on my hands and knees to roll the tent away!!

Sue, it amazed me when we met last year and you said you had done the drive to Le Cormoran towing that enourmous van.... I think thats incredible... I will definitely give driving in France a go this year....i think i may stick to the motorways rather than the towns...but yes i will do my bit!!!!

I must be lucky that hubby doesn't mind doing all the driving (especially when towing!) I have done some driving around the local area,say to suprmarket etc, but i really don't like motorway driving here so he knows that i wouldn't want to use the motorway driving on the other side of the road! and with the caravan on the back! We then both do some cooking and both enjoy the shopping! Ooh 6 weeks on Thursday and we will be on our way to Folkestone! Hurray, can't wait and counting down already.

  I dont tow because hubby is ex driving intsructor and ex hvg driver. Not worth the ear ache if i dont tow correctly.

We share the towing - but I tend to do the 'easy' bits on dual carriageways, or on roads that I'm familiar with.  I leave him to tow into the campsite - and this year we're looking forward to using our new motor mover to maneuovre into exactly the position that I want!

Pumpkin - the reason we prefer camping, either here or France is because of the great people you get chatting to. If you are on a package tour you hardly get to mix with anyone.  Hubby can go to do the dishes  - strike up a conversation, and end up inviting his new friends back for a cuppa, or something stronger - depending upon the time of day!

I think it's great for children - they make friends and mix much easier on campsites.
