Hi there

Not sure whether I should post my question here or in the Uk section but I'll give it a go here!

In the past we've stopped at one of the nice CL's near Dover prior to our travel over to France on the ferry. But we've converted to the Tesco method of travel and use Eurotunnel and the CL that we normally use is a little out of the way now.

So I've seen suggestions for Black Horse Farm but I'm confused about this policy of only accepting late arrivals from travellers returing from France. How do they know you are on your way back? Do they check for the smelly cheese in you Fridge and vast quanties of beer, wine and baccy in stuffed into the available nooks and crannies of your car/ caravan? We should be able to make to the campsite by 8 o'clock but it might be cutting it fine.

Last year we stopped at Camping Les Epinettes just down from the terminal in France, but we didn't arrive on site until gone 1 in the morning and it was really difficult to pitch the van without unhooking the car. We don't want to have to unhitch if we can help it so Blackhorse farm seems ideal and I can't seem to find any CL's near to the terminal.

Has anyone arrived after 8pm and what happens if you do please?

Have stayed here a few times on our way to the ferry/tunnel. wasn't aware of the policy of late arrivals from france only. The office closes at 5pm I think and they leave an envelope with your name on pinned up outside. this shows your pitch number. you pay next morning when they open up at 9am. The overnight area is separate to the main site so I can't see any problems. there is no late arrivals area, so may be worth giving them a ring to clarify.

Hi Bassynix.

This is an excellent site, as all Caravan Club sites are, but I don't think you will be allowed to keep your car hitched overnight.

From memory, the 'Ferry' pitches, ( which are outside the normal pitching area so as not to disturb long stay campers ), are simply too short to stay hitched up.

Hi

We returned from Europe in January in the snow we arrived very late 1.30am we were left instructions on the reception door very easy to understand very easy to pitch even though it was covered in snow even with a large motorhome and towing a car did unhitch the car though

Contacted them by telephone on the way through France they were very helpful as we did not know what time we would be arriving

I am not sure if this has changed but from the UK side you had to arrive by 8.00pm. For some reason coming from France you could arrive at any time. Perhaps this was because it was possible to have delays on the return trip where as if you stay on the way to France you at least know what the proper time your crossing will be leaving. Maybe its because if you arrive from France you are more likely to be there in the morning when the office opens although I thought late arrivals had to pay in advance. Black Horse Farm is open all year, why not give them a ring on 01303892665

We have stayed here loads of times, finishing work and getting down by say 2200, all i think you have to do, is call the site and pay up front, you deffo need to book a ferry pitch as this is the area near the entrance so as to not bother people. The site staff then put your pitch details behind a small sign at the front of the office...

In the late arrival area the lights are on all night so you should hgave no problems unhitching the van its like daylight.

Hi

Thanks for the advice, it's not the difficulty unhitching it's the making noise we're more worried about. Don't want to disturb anyone else, but on this occasion wwe'd be there before 10pm so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'll book a ferry pitch as I know you have to pay in advance now and as the office shuts at 5 there shouldn't be any problems!

Thank you for your valuable advice! I can always count on this forum!
