Just thought I would try once more to see if anyone knows if this site is any good in St Hilaire de Riez before I book it with Keycamp.

We travelled to France for the first time this year.  We usually go to Dorset.  We went to Lou Pignada which is in Les Landes between Messanges & Vieux Bocau just above Biarittz.  The only thing was we went in a tent and got flooded out in August this year, as our tent was in a dip and the water came in up to about 12 inches.  We then spent 3 nights in different mobile homes and then went back to our tent, but as it was right beside the disco/bar so we didn't get any sleep until 3am.  We eventually got moved further into the camp to a different tent and it was like a different holiday, peaceful and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool.  We enjoyed our second week but the first week was like holidays from hell.

So we thought we try again next year, but in a mobile home this time.  We have picked out the Vendee as it is a bit closer to drive to and the weather in the brochure says that it is supposed to be similar to the south of France.  Don't know whether that is the case.

Hoping someone will reply.  Have only just found this site and it looks really good to get real people's views on sites instead of brochures.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

We stayed at Le Chateaux Vieux three or four times, the first time ten or twelve years ago - we booked with Eurocamp at the time. We were very happy with the site which had good facilities, indoor and outdoor pool and slide, with good sized shaded pitches. Once we got our own trailer tent and more recently a folding camper we have not used the site ouselves, but did drive by ealier this year and noted that ir did not seem to have changed much. I hope you enjoy your stay in the Vendee. It is a part of the wold we like very much - similar to Norfolk but with sun!  Look up the web site for the Puy de Fou http://www.puydufou.com/UK/ which is worth a full day out.

Statistically the mid part of France's west coast-Vendee/Gironde is supposed to be the sunniest in France--its not as hot as the Med(which gets too hot jul/aug imho)--its also less stormy than further down--we were in the area (Montalivet) in Aug & the weather was genrally warm & sunny-tho we had a couple of nights of heavy rain-when pitchin tents-boyscout rules apply at all times-ie pitch on top of a small slope--
