Hello Tom
Its always best to talk direct to the ferry company armed with a few quotes from competitors.
As a member, I had a quote from the CC as well as P&O. Spoke to Seafrance and got a further reduction on their discounted fare. Beat the CC hands down and got money off my next crossing to boot. The same applied with the RAC on Insurance, a little bit of haggling saw a reduction there too.
Its also best to book a midnight onwards crossing, Arrive at the port in good time and book in, If there's room you may well get offered an earlier boat and with no extra charges. Same applies on the return although check on the French side before accepting as they may try to charge your credit card.
A lot of the French Petrol Stations are unmanned in the early morning and have chip n pin card fuel pumps. Its not uncommon for these to be out of order so make sure you have enough fuel in the tank or you may have to wait till day shift starts. (I nearly got caught out Calais-Paris route.
Motorways have Tolls(Peages) and there is always fair warning, However, if you get a decent map, you can avoid them and save a few Euro's for the holiday
Good luck

We've come across a really easy way around this.....if you're stuck, wait for a customer with the relevant card, and ask them to fill your car up and you give them the equivalent in cash! Done this a few times now, and the French have been so trusting & obliging they're unreal! It's a really nice change to the sideways glances and comments you'd get at most places over here!
what a cracking good idea , just hope i make myself understood & dont get a punch on the nose instead of a tank of juice ...
Are these credit cards what they use then or like a bank debit card?
