You could look through a few of these reviews.

Theres a lovely site in northern spain at a village called La Franca, approximately 1 hr drive from Santandar.  The whole area of northern spain is lovely, but dont expect Fish & Chips & 'English Spoken here' signs.

Bear in mind its genrally sunnyer further up the sw coast Gironde/Vendee--wearas down near the border & into Spain you can get bad summer storms-only short & genrally at night--so if yore tent campin dont pitch at the bottom of a slope-the only good thing about northern Spain(imho) is cheap food/wine/beer/petrol compared with France---

Try this:

http://www.campingcoquelicots.com/

We've stayed here twice before and my wife's family have been here for many years when she was a child.   Best thing about it is there are some fabulous beaches nearby, also La Palmyre Zoo which is one of France's best.  Also, toilet and shower blocks are very clean and it's a reasonable price   The very best thing is the local farmer who comes selling local Charentais melons from the back of his car every teatime.   Worst thing - don't chose a spot near the entrance adjacent to the road as this can be noisy (it's only a single track country lane though).   Also, the site does not have a pool, but with such wonderful beaches nearby, you don't need one.   The pitches under the pine trees at the far end are the quietest.

For next year, we're looking at this one..  Again, family stayed here years ago.   It has a pool though.

This is a great part of France to go with children as there are so many things to do as well as the beaches.   On previous visits in July and September we had fantastic weather - shorts and T shirts all the time (including evenings).

The only down side of the journey is that if doing Dover-Calais you need an overnight stop.   Also, you have to negotiate the Paris Boulevard Peripherique, which is busy but OK as long as you follw the signs to Bordeaux and don't even attempt to work out road numbers!

Hope this helps.

We stayed at Roayn this year too. Great site called Bonne Anse Plage, very close to the zoo at La Palmyre.

The beaches are nice, some sheltered, not alot of surf while we were there, which depending on your preferences is either a good or a bad thing....

Kids all loved it there, and we found it good enough for our needs. See the reviews in the Review Section.

Don't visit the area though without a trip to Saintes, and Cognac! And stock up on Pineau, the local brew, as it's increasingly difficult to buy as you get further north!
