We got a wonderful bordeaux called Chateau Lesparre in the Charente two years ago.  Bought 6 bottles, drank them all during the holiday and then couldn't find any more.  Searched all the Nettos from Bordeaux to Calais .  Oh well.  We also adopt the drink some, buy some approach.  We met a couple last year in the Loire who had brought all their own Gallo 3 litre wine boxes from Tesco with them.  And they'd been coming to France for years.  The campsite owner kept looking at them as if they were mad - which of course they must be

Go to the wine coops and see what the locals buy. It aint bottles, many fill plastic containers direct from the wine tap.

We usually look our for medal winners in supermarkets and buy a couple of bottles to try.  If we like them we go back and buy some more to take home, and leave it safely tucked away so we don't drink it whilst away.

Last year we found an excellent one in the supermarket in Nevers on an overnight stop - cheap as well as excellent drinking - and thought we'd buy some more the following day.  It was all gone, and it wasn't in any other supermarket that we came across during the holiday. 

If it's good then go back and buy it asap is my advice.

Currently available at Lidl,--- St Emillion Grand Cru  2007 at £ 7.99 per bottle. Think it is ex Christmas stock, but good value.
