If you are going Sept. there will be no need to book anywhere. In fact many French campsites close for the season in early/mid Sept. If you have a motorhome there are plenty of 'aires du campingcar' you will see them signposted as you go into towns.

Or 'Le Guide Officiel.....' which is available from Vicarious Books and covers ALL the campsites in France - including all the muncipal sites, and camping a la ferme sites. I think there are around 11,000 entries in this year's book.
The £25 is a rip off end of. The same as ian admin fee is for the Cinema, Football Matches, Sporting events, any club hiding behind "we don't make a profit" All are a rip off.
I fell for it this Year, But not again.
