Last year we went to France for the first time with our Caravan and remember having trouble at the petrol station, not knowing which pump we should be using, fortunatly there was an English man there who was able to help us. Can someone please tell me which pump or what the pumb will have on it we should use.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
There is normally a choice of 95 unleaded or super unleaded. The 95 is ok for any modern car. This will be the cheapest petrol so go for that if you are still uncertain. As leaded petrol is no longer available, any of the available petrol wil be ok for your car. The diesel is marked 'gazole' so obviously avoid that.
Most stations will have some green on the petrol pistol grips & black/yellow on the diesel but don't rely solely on this tho.
Another problem at french fuel stations, if the pump doesn't work there is no sign to tell you that, so you have to try it and move on to another one! We also found the fuel in the UK cheaper than in France last summer...

Really?? Although fuel in France had gone up too, it still was cheaper than over here we found. But we only use supermarkets for fuel, and I know that smaller garages are more expensive.
The cheapest in recent months (which will probably have changed now) was near Zeebrugge in Belgium in December, at 96.5 cents per litre.
The link given aboves, takes you to the the 'Aires de Camping Cars' website, which I don't think is what you're looking for if you're towing a caravan.
There is an Aire with a petrol station on the A84 but its not near to Rennes - it's the Aire le Mont St Michel, which is probably not where you want.
Aires can also be the picnic type which don't sell fuel - and there is one to the north of Rennes, near to Le Chapelle Aubert. They are shown on the Michelin maps as green half-circles on either side of the autoroute. Blue half-circles mean they are fully serviced 'Aires' with a fuel station, restaurant, etc. South of Rennes the road is dual carriageway, and fuel stations are not indicated on these roads on the Michelin map.
Some of the route planning websites will give you the location of Service Stations along the route, and the this website will give you the location of Fuel stations along your route, together with the current price and what types of fuel are available.
Diesel is always cheaper in France & other European countries because of lower tax on diesel than petrol. In France at the moment average supermkt price of 95unleaded is 1.39€=£1.25p/p.litre & diesel is 1.09€=99p/p.litre.
