Afternoon everyone.

I know my question is one that really needs a crystal ball but I just wondered from experience what kind of weather/temperature we can expect at the end of May/beginning of June when staying in Cantabria. Just trying to guage how many fleeces to pack along with our swimsuits!!

This is our first camping in Spain and so have played safe and we're not travelling that far from Santander (we're taking the Plymouth-Santander crosssing).

Thanks

You can use this website to look at historical weather records going back to the 70's.  Just look up the nearest large city to your destination, then click on Historical Weather Records, click on the month you're planning your holiday, and you can see all the temperatures, and amounts of rain, etc., during that month.  Click through the years, and you'll soon get an idea of what the weather is like overall.  A few quick clicks shows that about half the days in May had rain, and about half the days in June, certainly over the last two years.  Take an umbrella and raincoats!

The trouble is that with an individual experience, someone can have really bad weather, but that may not be the 'norm'.  For instance, we were in Spain in December, and had very heavy snow, but it hadn't snowed in the area we were visiting for about forty years.  Some parts of Spain had snow for the first time in living memory.

All you can do is look at history as Val says and history will tell you it should be warm & pleasant but no guarantees. We have had dreadful weather before now in Almeria southern Spain in april.may.

thank you.

I'll have a look at the site you've suggested.

Still new to camping but really looking forward to Spain.

Should have said Welcome to UKCS too - I didn't notice it was your first post.

If you ask, you'll get loads of useful information for the very knowledgeable contributors to this forum - probably the best place to go for advice!

So far this year has the weather has been really erratic, has not settled down like it usually does, but should 'hopefully' be ok soon.

We regularly stayed close by Santander, usually late July/August.

Reminds me of a really hot summer in the UK: it can be unbelievably hot, and absolutely gorgeous. But it also can be changeable: and we have campied in Noja with the roads flooded out.

If you want to camp close to the Atlantic, expect "lively weather"

We now trek across to Barcelona for our summer holidays. Its the 3 weeks we wait for all year, I'd rather drive another day and be sure that even in the unlikely event of rain, its hot rain!

Oh! and the drive across is pretty spectacular too!

I have been to Cantabria with the school I work for on a school trip for the past two years in June, we didn't camp but the weather was fine, lovely and hot some days.  You may get a few over cast days and there is always a chance of rain.  So I would take a mix of clothes - it can turn cooler at night so you will need a jacket.  I can tell you some great places to visit. We stay in Noja where the beach is great!

Santillana Del Mar is a lovely historic village which is nice to have a walk around.   We also visit Castro Urdiales which is a fishing village - it reminds me of Whitby! Cabarceno wildlife park is also good for a day out especially with Children, the animals live in semi captivity and there are bird of prey shows etc.

Have a great time!!

we went to Noja for late may/ 1st week of june in 2008, in the morning there was always some mist but for the rest of the day it was shorts and t-shirt beach weather, just need something warm for night.. can echo noja beach is great lots of rock pools. The only thing I found about that time of year was apart from weekends it was off season so lots of restaurants closed. We went on the Bilbao crossing which was fine no issues with bay of biscay and dolphins followed the boats on some parts some people saw whales but my kids didnt have the patience to sit and watch all day!
Its a nice relaxing part of spain
