My father in law has just returned from France via P&O Dover to Calais. He booked 10 months ago to get their top discount rate.
However, before embarking on the boat, he asked P&O staff at Dover what the cost of a return ticket would be if he was to buy it there and then at the time of travel. The answer was £20 less than his early bookings fare!
He phoned P&O on return to the UK and they refunded the difference. I'd recommend checking this - we could all save some money!

I wouldn't bother - book with Speedferries instead. The current rate for a car only return Dover to Boulogne in next summer's peak is £50 return or £104 for car + trailer at any time of day, staying for any duration. It'd have to be some big discount to match that!
Speedferries fare is only £88 return Dover/Calais for a medium sized motorhome, full details on max sizes are on the website.
Phil.
It's actually Dover to Boulogne. Speedferries don't sail to Calais. My car , a Peugeot Partner and my folding camper are possibly going to be too long as the combined length limit MUST NOT exceed 7 metres

Aileen, sorry about the mistake I've got Calais on the brain as I've just returned after a couple of months away and I passed several of the SpeedFerries boats on the crossing. Apologies to anybody else who may have been misled.
Phil, you're right - my £104 was for the upgrade to "family class" accommodation where you get reserved seats (I have a 3 year old daughter and a 1 year old son). The standard fare is £88.
