Im going to France in August camping and was wondering if the standard electric hook up cable that we use in this country can be used in France or will I need an adaptor of some sort.

You may need an adaptor but many continental sites are now compatible. The adaptor is just a short lead with different connectors on each end. A few pounds only.
Some french sites are also reverse polarity so take a tester. Again only a couple of quid Ebay do these things.
There are a number of extensive threads on the rights & wrongs of reverse polarity. You can do a search on here or very shortly another lengthy discussion will kick off.
We were wondering about this as we are going to Normandy. I've looked online for adaptors but the only ones I can find look like a normal continental 2 pin plug attached to a regular hook up pin. Are these OK for outdoor use?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

If the site uses 2 pin domestic sockets, the sockets are normally grouped in a box with a door on the front & you can normally get your whole adaptor in the box. If not, wrap the joint between blue/white plug/socket with a carrier bag.
If the electric does trip, ie if you overload it or if there is a thunderstorm, there will be a reset switch next to the socket.

I've seen a few Dutch vans with a kind of plastic moulded cover that clips around the joint (obviously to make it more watertight) never seen one advertised here though. Thought it was quite a good idea. Looks a bit like a large fishing float.
The plastic moulded cover is available in any French supermkt, The ones I've seen are too small to go over a joined blue/white plug/socket, they are to go over the european plug/socket joint. I've never found one big enough to go over a blue/white plug/socket joint. I keep looking tho.
