Im planning on spending my main holiday this year in France - as a total newbie when it comes to camping abroad I haven't got a clue as to where is best to stay but my main requirements are as follows:-
- Not too far a drive from the port of entry (2 hrs max?)
- Family friendly (two boys aged 11 & 6)
- Things to visit off site
- Beach not too far away
- Not over the top site wise (ie a French version of a Haven site?)
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike, post this on the camping abroad section and you'll get loads of help.
Chateau de Drancourt fits your requirements nicely.

Captain Birdseye, when posting details of a camp site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read or left
Cheers
Ian

Nobody can really help you until you say how much you want to pay for the ferry crossing. If you sail Portsmouth to St Malo, 2hrs drive from there will see you in proper holiday country, like Cornwall, but the ferry crossing for car will cost you £585 return Jul/Aug.
If you sail from Dover you might get a return for less than £50 if you are prepared to sail at night, you can also cross on Eurotunnel for about £30worth of Tesco clubcard vouchers, but any camping experience 2hrs from Calais/Dunkerque will be more like camping in Suffolk/Essex/Kent, scenery wise.
However even camping a couple of hrs from Calais will still give you the 'French experience' no different from anywhere else in France even if you still get UK weather.
