This looks a great site and within our 10hr max towing time from Calais or Le Havre.  Has anyone been - what is it like, what are the pitch sizes like & does anyone know how deep the lake is in front of the lakeside pitches (as I've read these are the most generous).

not been to the site but the area north of there (Biscarosse/ Landes) we really like. Only negative could be the weather as I've heard its not as reliable as Vendee/Royan if you want lots of sunshine. (sorry!!)

I've found two fab sites for August 2011 holiday tonight which is ideal for the Camplet but a no go with the in laws MH. Dont dare post details though as sticking to plans isnt my strongpoint!!

Edited to say, Paillotte is in the caravan Club Europe brochure which if you havent got can be viewed online.

Thanks Pager I shall go and have a look as I really like the look of this one but not many review to be found.  Surely the weather this far south should be (normally) good in August?!

Jul/Aug weather on the SW coast is normally 25-28deg sunny/cloudy, cool breeze on't coast & pleasantly cool evenings. You can get days of high 30s & you can also get rainy days of only 20deg. Those that find the heat of a Mediterranean summer a bit too much, will find the SW coast weather very agreeable.

We stayed at this site 3/4 years ago. We stayed in one of their lakeside lodges opposite the camp plots. On this side the water was shallow around the perimeter; quite a distance before it got deep. You can cycle into Souston from the site which we enjoyed and its only 15 mins or so from a beautiful  beach  (although it is surfing country and quite rough). We had our inflatable canoe with us and had a ball on the lake (you can rent canoes on site) There were a few wind surfers although not always suitable weather for them. The weather was changeable in late June/early July, ranging from 18 to 28 degrees with some showers. Its lovely to wake up to a lake view and mother duck and her chicks came in to greet the kids every morning!! There is light entertainment on site and the restaurants not bad. Tree climbing also nearby. We enjoyed ourselves!
