Planning next years trip and we're looking at one of two sites in the Vendee area of France.

It will be our first trip abroad with the caravan, unless you count the Isle of Wight.

Does anybody know the sites or the area.

All advice appreciated.

The Vendee is a lovely area of France, there are many threads about it in this section.

We have been twice now and will be going again. Never been with Haven though, so can't help on that score.

Buy a campsite guide. I use the Michelin one. Gives you loads of information and choice. I don't reserve, but that also depends on the type of site you want and location.
Having the guide with me gives me the option to pass the site I chose if I don't like it and take aother one within e.g. 10 kms distance.

I have stayed in Le Bois Maison, in St Jean de Monts(Vendee) and there is another across the road called Le Bois Dormant, both run by Haven.

St Jean de Monts is lovely, with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Campsite was great, especially for kids, who enjoyed it immensely.

You can use facilities in both sites, if you stay there.

I've been to both these sites too, we stayed at Dormant.  I'd rather stay there, it is much quieter,  Maison was full of rampaging teenagers, letting off bangers near the gas cannisters while the parents were totally oblivious, though there are more facilities there, which as has been said you can use.

The beaches are beautiful but I would disagree that there is plenty to see out and about unless you are prepared to drive for hours.  After the journey down there we were loathe to do that.

Tried to book yesterday, but both sites are fully booked, sounds like most of the sites in France are already booked up for next year.

Which ferry company/crossing are you using Tony?

<edit> just noted from another thread that you're crossing to Calais </edit>
