Hi,

Booking an Italian site, and they require a €100 deposit transferred to their account. First direct were pleased to inform me that this would cost £25. I have asked if the site can accept paypal, but I would welcome any other suggestions in case they can't do this.

cheers

Pete

Pete,

I bank with first direct, ask them about the 4 day euro transfer that only costs £9, the £ 25 is for same day transfer.

I did an Euro transfer today, thats how I know

Regards

Bumping this a bit because I think it's an interesting and confusing topic.  I've recently been booking several sites (part of a tour) and have found (France and Luxembourg) that either (a) sites just take your booking, no deposit required, or (b) you can pay through secure sites by VISA.  Obviously, paying by credit card, there is a certain transaction charge but nothing like the amounts charged for money transfer. This has also been my experience in the past. However I've never booked at the honeypots on the French Mediterranean.

So, who are the people asking for cash and why? Are they just the large sites in Provence and the like? Are they just the upper grade camps? How common is it?
