Totally agree with the last three posts. In our case, because of fixed holidays giving a max of two weeks just want to have the most time on site. I am used to driving 8 hour days because of my job as a manager.
Especially agree about the psychological depression induced by the last leg of the drive home coming from Dover to Lancashire though.

We have done calais to argeles 3 times and we do the drive in one go towing a T/T . It only took 13 hours and that included stops. It all depends on your driving ability. We have always gone via lyon cos we think that is the easiest route.
Each to his own I say; if you're comfortable with doing it in one shot then fine. We wouldn't, but then, like some others, our routes have been known to resemble a wine list.
What I would suggest is that you might like to try the A75 some time; it goes through fabulous country, most of it's free, and above all compared to the A6 there's hardly any traffic on it. It might take a bit longer, but then if you factor in the fight to get round (or through) Lyon, it might not!
Thanks for all your feedback, we've driven back from Toulouse in one day (7 hours to Calais) so we're ok with the drive and felt that splitting over the two days would be less rushed. There is so much to see in France however, we don't want to pitch a tent for each night so just want to get to our destination with one overnight stop in a B&B or some budget hotel. Sounds like we need to decide which route to take, we would like to go via Millau to see the viaduct. Once we have our route then we can look to book our family rooms. Roll on August!!!
------------- May BH - Warren Farm, Brean
July - Blandford, Dorset
August - Argeles-Sur-Mer, France
We stopped in Clermont Ferrand last year in one of these apartments - Séjours et Affaires Clermont Ferrand Park Republique. Perfect stopover as allowed us to arrive on site next day in time to get set up before dark. Very clean and comfy and cheap.
Just to cheer you all up I gather that at the time of writing the temp in Argeles is about 3 deg, its raining and the wind speed is blowing at 30 mph gusting to nearly 50 mph!
Inland a bit at Ceret its just above freezing with sleet and rain. A bit higher up in the Mont Louis area there's more than a foot of snow. Anyone fancy a ride in an open wagon on the Little Yellow Train?

I can't believe those temperatures for Argeles and Ceret. It was cool at times when we were there in April. A dutch lady on site told us that the flowers around the site were out in bloom at the same time last year. It seems that its not just here that is struggling for some warm sunshine!
