I agree with Tentz. We - that's 2 of us - have camped for a number of years with a tent and Ford Mondeo. We normally go for 6 weeks at a time because that is our max car insurance without return to UK. We started off with an Asda tunnel tent 6m x 2m then when that started to leak we bought a a EasyCamp Taranto 500 at about 5m x 3m. We also bought a much larger tent in France because the French seemed to go in for bigger tents and greater comfort! Don't forget that lots of motorhomesand caravans are bigger than some tents but then tents have guy ropes
France is great for camping because you live outside the tent in your nice demarcated area - often hedged - all the time. Pitch fees are very reasonable for your 100 sq m - not like crammed in UK campsites! There are lots of opportunities to pick up accessories in France too, so if you find you need extra pegs etc you can just go along to the local supermarket and buy some.
5 months sounds like bliss to me. Pack your tent, stove, torch and sleeping bag and enjoy it.
We managed to pack into our mondeo last summer: 2 tents - one small for instant use in case of rain on arrival, canoe, portopotti, cadac, table, various chairs, 2 folding bikes etc. We removed the back seat for extra space as we had seen others do and it seemed like a good idea as we always came back home with loads of extras. So - 5 months - well, go prepared!
