Hi

Someone say something nice about this area (pretty please!).

Going to Touzac (Le Ch'tmi) in August on a rally and looking forward to it. Have done Sarlat before and never done The Lot.

Thanks

Les

I have had 4 really good holidays only 15 miles from Touzac - Fumel itself is OK - but don't drive 500 miles to visit

in fact don't drive 20 miles

Hi Les

We have been to the Lot twice. Both times we stayed about 20 miles north west of  Touzac at Villereal. You are in for a wonderful holiday. The Lot region is very rural with rugged uplands as you head east towards the Causses. If you do head over that way then Rocamador is a must do. There are lots of stunning Bastide towns to visit. Fumel is the departments industrial and commercial town. Every department has one and the Lot is no exception but you are a few miles upriver and wont even know its there unless you visit for shopping as it does have some excellent hypermarches. The rest of the Dept is stunning and an area we would have no hesitation returning to. I'm sure you will have a great holiday.

Carol

Thanks Huw and Carol.

Put my mind at rest (OH's really). Will have to do the Hypermarche thing as she insists on that. Other than that sounds a good area with a lot of ruggedness.

We have friends that like the area so much they bought a place there - Fumel is a necessary 'evil' - people have to work somewhere - Even in France

Friends of ours went to Moulin de Perie for the first time as a tour from the Caravan Club, it was one of the "gourmet holidays". That must have been about 5 or 6 years ago. They have a car and caravan. They enjoyed it that much, they've spent part of each holiday after that on that site! Under their own steam.

They don't rate Fumel either, but as has been pointed out, there are plenty of other places nearby, like the bastide towns. They like the site itself very much too, and can't speak highly enough of the owners: 2 years ago one of them was taken ill with what turned out to be gallstones. It was a Saturday evening, and the owners were in the middle of cooking/serving a gourmet dinner, but he dropped everything and left it to the others, and took our friends to hospital himself. He waited with them for over 2 hours whilst investigations were done. Unfortunately our friend had to be admitted, so he then drove her husband back to the site, by which time it was well after midnight.

Nothing to do with the area of course, but just an illustration of the kindness of campsite owners.

Ok so you've convinced me so I won't be staying in Fumel but will probably pass through it for a brief visit. I like the look of Moulin du Perie or possibly Camping le Ch'timi near Touzac. There looks like several nice towns to visit in the area and some historic stuff as well. No doubt we'll do our yearly pilgrimage and go to Rocamadour to see the monkeys.

Thanks y'all.

Must agree with comments above about Moulin de Perie. We loved it and owners great. However it is quite along way away from main tourist sites but still found lots to do. Depends what you want!! We liked the ambience! The little lake is nice too. They did a good trip up to the Dordogne for canoeing.

Not wishing to bore anyone but it looks like we'll be having a week at Moulin de Perie following a week in Nevers.

Moulin de Perie looks like our kind of site, some facilities, not too big, slightly off the beaten track. However, nothing in set in stone andI won't be booking anything until a couple of weeks before we travel which should be the 2nd week in August if all goes to plan.

Onwards and upwards!
