Your plan to visit Slovenia and Croatia in August and want somewhere quiet seems a bit optimistic, especially along the coast. Croatia is very busy in summer. However, if you do go there, don't leave without having visited Plitvice Lakes. This huge National Park, with a series of lakes which cascade from one to another, is absolutely beautiful.
Hungary is an interesting country to visit. It has a sort of staid, old-world feel to it. Many of the smaller towns have lots of well preserved old buildings. Lake Balaton, which is Europe's largest lake, will be heaving with tourists in August, but, if you go further south or east, there are many good small towns, often with well-maintained thermal baths and swimming pools. The town of Gyula, on the Romanian border, is one such that I would recommend.
'Wild' camping is prohibited in Hungary, and, I think, in Croatia, but in Hungary there is the National Association of Village Tourism, which might be able to help you. Also look at www.magbaztravels.com. These people know more about this part of the world than most people.
You can be sure of one thing, wherever you go in this part of the world; you'll have a really good holiday, and probably for a fraction of what it would cost in Western Europe. In Eastern Europe the people are genuinely friendly, surprised and amused to meet people from a different way of life, and, as you will most likely find, they will give you fruit and vegetables, and sometimes even wine, to make you feel welcome in their country.

thank you for your kind words, and the positive campsite review you have given us. There is no better form of advertising than praise from your customers. It is, however, still very difficult to convince travelers of how safe, interesting and enjoyable this part of the world is, and that it is not really very difficult to get here, just a bit more demanding than driving through France, for example. But what stories they would have to tell when they got home.
