Am starting to look around for Summer 2011, and SP is on our list. The kids will be 11,10 and 7 by then and we think we might need a site with a bit more to it than the ones we generally go for. From reading the reviews though, it appears that the riversite pitches are the best to go for as they are quieter at night, yet it also seems that you need to book over 12 months in advance to get one! This just isn't possible as I can't book leave at work until January of that year, in which case SP will have to come off our list.

We go to 3* La Bouysse next door. Not as busy, some nice shaded pitches - and really great takeaway duck and Sarlat potatoes!
The swimming pool isn't as fancy but it's quieter. Anyway, you'll probably spend more time on the river beach if your kids can swim well.
If it's the nightlife you like, Soleil Plage aren't sniffy about you visiting their bar - it's all trade!
(We first tried SP's statics a few years ago but they are horribly close to each other and expensive. That's when we switched to La Bouysse's gites. Now we're going back under canvas so we can afford to stay longer.)
Either way, you'll love the canoeing and the views of the cliffs at sunset. Enjoy!
we're going to SP in 10 days time and did consider a riverside pitch buthave booked pitch 120 which has great access to the beach. From what I have read there are plenty of other pitches which are also very good and much more reasonable. I wouldnt want to stay on a pitch on the other side nearer reception etc. We did enquire about a pitch a couple of years ago in August and had a choice of 2 0r 3 well located pitches.
Will report back on good pitches/ my thoughts when we return. I just wouldnt pay the extra tbh.

You REALLY don't need a riverside pitch to enjoy Soleil Plage. I can see the attraction but I have been 6 or 7 times and never had a riverside pitch. I would suggest the 1/2 of the site upstream/east of the field in the centre is really much nicer than the other 1/2 though.
We stayed last May/June for nearly three weeks on the swimming pool side of the site and really liked it. There were a few days when, together with a French family, we had the whole lot to ourselves. The only time it was noisy was when there was a wedding reception and we'd been warned about that in advance so we're certainly hoping to be back on that side next week. The supplement for riverside pitches was about €8 a night...and there's a hedge between the pitch and the river.

I was going to say that, it may be river side but there is a big hedge/fence all the way round the site, well thats how it looked when we had a nose around last year
SP is in a Lovely spot though, def on my list of places to stay, although very expensive and pitches are pretty small and close together.
We were on pitch 16 which was quite big but had an awkwardly placed tree so we were glad of the mover on our van. OH is hoping for a pitch with more chance of TV reception this year...he mentioned something about some football. We haven't booked but I emailed the site and was told I didn't need to book ,we'd be okay!
