We're moving to Portugal in July and are arranging for all our camping gear to be transported across along with our general possessions (we're hoping to get a much better camping season in Portugal!)
One query I don't seem to be able to get answered is regarding the use of our trailer (as a non-visiter, as a resident) outside the UK.
We use the trailer solely for camping and, when we're not away camping, it is stored, packed to the hilt, with our camping gear (always "ready to go"!)
It's only a Halfords trailer, not a huge thing. Single axle, no registration or anything yet some sources seem to think I am going to need to register it in Portugal which will be pretty difficult when I have no forms of registration documents relating to it in the UK!
Does anyone have any info on bringing such a trailer into Europe and whether we will need to register it at all (even if it's based on info from a country other than Portugal)
Many thanks
Tracey

------------- Mum to two boys - 17 and 14 yrs.
Seasoned campers in the UK up to 2010 when we moved to Portugal and back again in 2015. Now using a campervan which we converted ourselves in 2016.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
If you are driving there with a UK reg vehicle it will not be problem in any country while it is being towed by a UK reg vehicle, as it only has to comply with UK regs anywhere in the EU. Put it behind a Portugese reg car & obviously it then has to comply with local laws.
Most EU countries(apart from UK)require trailer/caravan reg but most, only over 500kg. If it does require registration you will probabley need a certificate of conformity from the manufacturers. No probs if it is an Erde or other popular make but if trailer is home made then you've probabley had it.

I'll contact Erde for a COC (we need one from Honda for our motorcycle too) and go from there.
I'll try the Algarve forum but other ones I frequent seem to be giving conflicting information as nothing is coming from anyone/anywhere 'official'
thanks folks
