Hi

We are travelling through France and into Spain and I would like some recommendations for sites over the Spanish Border near Girona and Barcelona. Does anyone have any personal recommendations - we have left it quite late to book for Summer but I really want a good one. We have an 11 year old son so would like a pool etc - but don't want loads of noise at night

Thanks in advance

Vilanova park near Sitges just south of Barcelona. Just off the motorway huge beach nearby local train into Barcelona and Sitges is a beautiful old resort away from the costas

On site is a large playground , pool small zoo good shop restaurant etc etc.

It is a big site with good sized pitches and truly international. plenty of brits but others too.

Best toilet blocks (heated in winter) I have seen.

try the Pals area   lots of sites  eg  Interpals   not far into spain from france and near enough to girona to catch the train into barca   done it a few times  dead easy   if you go further south and nearer to barca then the towns are more built up and more 'costa' and 'brit'

south of barca means having to take the motorway ring road  which can be busy   but doable   we went to the cambrils area a few times   south of salou    lovely area and great sites   playa montroig best site we have been on but oh boy is it dear now   100 euros for a beach site  and about 60 for the cheapest    we stopped going because of the price        la torre del sol is next door and on the beach as welll and a chunk cheaper last time we looked

When are you planning to go? We will be going to Camping Aquarius (with 11 year old son) on 14 August. Camping Aquarius doesn't have a pool, but it is a brilliant site - I know of 2 other British families who have children similar ages who will be on site at the same time.

Having stayed at sites with pools, my kids would rather be at Aquarius for a couple of reasons: the site is on the beach - and it is a really great beach, uncrowded, shallow and with great sand. It is a small site, it is 100% safe for an 11 year old to go off with their friends. No disco, although there is some evening entertainment.

Most evenings, adults often get together and enjoy the odd bottle of wine and beer, while the kids play. Most of the people have been there many times (often for more than one generation), we all try different sites, but end up coming back to Aquarius eventually

Hi
Thanks for all the advice. We are going from July 25th for a week. My parents are currently at Ballena and they checked for me and it is fully booked the week we want - apparently the busiest week of the year!

I will have a look at the others you have mentioned.

Many thanks
Katie

The Spanish do not do "quiet" when camping, they like to gather together for meals, with much laughing and joking, eat late-ish, and keep their children up ( playing outside ) until they are ready to go to bed themselves. Dogs are usually tied up outside units, where they bark freely at the children playing and anyone passing by. Sites close to cities will have lots of city dwellers who have permanently sited their vans, and turn up for the weekends.

Be prepared for Spanish camping to be different, and you will have a great time.

We liked El Garoffer at Sitges. You can get the Bus from outside the site to visit Barcelona, it took 45mins and this was very popular with fellow campers, though we had a dog, so didn't go. You can walk to the beach easily from here too.

Hi,

We have just got back from our travels to Spain and France, We stayed at Vilanova camping park, there is a bus outside park which takes you into vilanova and straight to train station, it is a bit of a roundabout ride but you can buy a ticket from a tabac called a pension easter for just over 4euro which gives you 10 rides and you can use the one card for both of you, just swipe it twice. If you catch the train into Barcelona and you want to use the open top tour bus purchase it from train station for 22euro pp and you get your train ticket for nothing. We did this and we had a great time, it is the best way to see Barcelona as there are bus stations for the tour bus at all the main points throughout the city and you just hop and off at what place suits you, they come about every 5-10 min. There are 3 routes red, blue and green. We did the Blue in morning and red in afternoon but did not do the green. You can also buy a 2 day one for 29euro. You get earphones inc. which gives you guided tour info.

Don't know when you are going but we will be there in July staying at Sanguli in Salou (100k south of Barcelona). It has brilliant ratings and we've had excellent feedback from work colleagues. We live in CH so have a good feel for europeans and go to Spain every year. Was places when I booked 3 weeks ago if this is of any help
