Hi,

Has anyone booked to go camping in France with eurocanp Independent? Is it cheaper to book ferry, campsites yourself or use their service? They include insurance and car cover. Any info would be gratefully received.

P.S Does anyone know how long a drive it is from Dundee to Plymouth or Portsmouth?

Thanks

Kirsty

Hi Kirsty!-what part of France do you want to visit & do you want basic (cheap & quiet) campsites or big ones with pools & shops etc?-----decide that first--

We've just had a two week holiday in France this summer with Eurocamp Independent. The sites were great. One in particular we're returning to next summer! The point is that you're taking alot of the hassle out of the holiday. They do all the work, right down to working out the routes for you! The reps on site are there if you need them, not in your face. In fact, we only needed the rep on one occasion to ask a simple question.

We'd have no hesitation in using them again, they were great....even when I'd changed my mind about how long we wanted to stay in certain places! Nothing seemed too much of a problem with them. We booked last November for a holiday in August, and we got the dates we wanted, and the sites we wanted too!

For a family of 5, travelling Poole-Cherbourg, including 12 nights on 3 sites came to just short of £800 inc. return ferries, which I couldn't really complain about. Although I know now that I could have got it slightly cheaper by shopping around, or booking early for ferries etc. For example, we know we can save £400 on that cost next year, and have 17 nights on site too!

Thanks guys,

Would like to go to a campsite in Brittany, not too far a drive as we will have to come down from Scotland, and dont want to spend all our time travelling.

A fairly lively site would be great. Not too bothered about pools if beside the beach, but perhaps a bar/restaurant.

I was quoted 749 for the three of us to cross portsmouth to roscoff in july, 12 nights on a site. Thought this fairly reasonable.

Any more thoughts?

Kirsty

I have been looking into camping in Brittany - we are near Edinburgh so its the long journey putting dh off!

I was looking on the Tesco site - theres an offer if you use Tesco vouchers off camping holidays in France - I looked at the website and the holiday are very reasonable - cant for the life of me remember what site it was!

Anyway - it worked out at around £300 for 12 nights in June (the joys of the Scottish school hols starting early!)

I will have a surf and post the link..............

We found, as members of Camping & Caravanning Club, that we could save about £150 by booking through their Carefree service rather than using Eurocamp Independent when we last went over, about 6 years ago.

Hi Kirsty,

We.ve gone to France the last four summers, twice from dover and the last two years from Portsmouth.  We leave glasgow about lunch time and get there about 11 at night and pitch up for the morning ferry.  On the way back we get the 9ish ferry from france- gets in about noon or 1 o.clock and it takes avout 12 hours to Glasgow so add on perhaps another 2 -3 for Dundee
Hope this helps

eileen
