I have read a few posts saying that to beat having to pay a reservation fee at the sites in France you should just turn up. Whilst that sounds fine out of season, I am very worried that if we do it in August we will have a big problem! We are travelling from Calais to L'Escala and were hoping to break the journey near Clermont Ferrand. If anyone knows of a site in the area that doesnt charge a fee that would be great, otherwise we are thinking about just sharing the driving and doing it in one go as the fees are almost as much as the cost of the pitch for the night! We think that 75 euro is quite a lot for just one night! Hope to get some advice and/or recommendations soon.
Many thanks

I am sorry but did I miss something? how did we get to 75 euro /night?

Is this the booking fee plus the pitch fee? where too?

Try this one. Its where you want just off motorway and reasonable.

Thanks Huw

Have looked at F1 and there is one right on the motorway and it is cheaper than the campsite!

Thanks Steve,

Have checked it out and using their booking service the cost will be 63.20 euro for the night. Cheaper than the 75 euro at the original site but, as Huw suggested I have checked out an F1 hotel and that works out cheaper still! Will continue looking thought as it seems mad taking your accommodation with you and then using someone elses!

Are you trying to book an overnight at a site that would really rather you booked a week, perhaps? We never have any problem overnighting on Municipals or similar, sometimes booked in advance, sometimes not (even in July and August).

I don't know the Clermont Ferrand area, I've never been to this site a but http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=9805 looks like it might be ok for an overnight. I make it about 15.70 for a car, tent and 2 people. I can't see anything about a booking fee and frankly I'd be astonished if there was one. Or if they wanted any money before arrival.

And it has free wifi and a pool, what more can you want for an overnight?

Liz

Thank you to Liz, Steve and Huw,

We have now sorted it all out and have also booked the same place (no booking fee!) for our return journey.

Many thanks for all your help, I just hope that I will be as helpful to someone else sometime.

Fiona

Hi Liz,

Have booked at the site below!

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7702

They are charging 31 euro for our unit and 5 people. This also includes 10a european electricity.
There are no reservation fees, just a request that you let them know if you are not coming and to let them know before 6.00pm if you are going to be late.
Sounds great so we will let you know when we get back how we got on!

Fiona
