Check what you are required to have by law ie warning triangle, jackets etc. Then price the items in Tesco for example before you consider the AA ensemble!
I got the kit from the AA last year but really you are paying extra for the case and the AA travel book/map.
You will most prob. know already but don't forget spare bulbs and you will more than likely need two high vis jackets which need to be kept in the front of the vehicle rather than in the boot
------------- Get me my dust pan and brush, we're going camping!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Lidl sometimes have the AA kits. Last year it was £9.99 and on the shelves for several months. If you cant get a Lidl kit then it is probably cheaper to put together your own. Home Bargain do a fire extinguisher for £4.99 and a triangle for £1.99. You can pick up yellow jackets for £1 in the pound shops and you can get a bulb kit in Motorist World for £7.99.
You legally need 1 reflective jacket & warning triangle, black tape on your headlamps will do the job & a GB sign if you don't have 'Euro' numberplates. We are on about £8 by now. You are also supposed to carry spare bulbs(sidelight & indicator bulb will suffice) First aid kit is only 'advised'.
Great - ordered essentials which came to £7 and a spare bulb kit at £6.99 so much cheaper than what I had originally lloked at. We have a first aid kit anyway.
hi everyone i would advise a jacket for each occupents of veihcle. if you all need to vacate the car all must have hi-viz jackets on before leaving car ..(was fined last year for not doing so )
------------- I work to live. I don,t live to work, holidays are the best part of living
I was advised by a friendly police officer last year that the requirement is for a Hi-Vis vest for every seat the vehicle has. They will be no doubt enforcing this with the same amount of rigor that they do to English tourists along the auto routes. (Tentz won’t like this) but you will need bulbs for all applications on your vehicle. Head lights included, also the tools to fit the bulbs as well (no fun if you own a Rover75 or certain Citrons) that need to remove the wheel, inner wheel arch to access the headlight, side light, indicator bulb cluster the French police have the power to impound your car if you cannot replace the bulb there and then resulting in a hefty fine and costs of the vehicle removal. Not wishing to cast doom and gloom as most officers are happy just to see that you have bothered. But as I have been reminded the information needs to be accurate and often contradicts itself from source to source. From a personal note its better to be safe than sorry as the fines often out way the cost of initial purchase. They are what could be termed logical safety items that all cars should carry.
------------- Life is what you make it ,but what you make could change your life.
I started by googling "ampoule de rechange lumière de conduire la loi" on google.fr. Amongst plenty of other info I came on this sort of thing(google translated) here & here make of it what you will. It appears French law does now recognise it is nowadays impossible for a motorist to change a bulb beside the road & carrying spare bulbs is no longer compulsory. You can however still be fined for having a light out.
I do think it is neccessary to post both links to sources & also a method whereby forum members can ascertain that posted info does in fact have a basis in fact. I have done this to allow people to make up their own minds.
