We're taking our caravan on the tunnel this year, have used it previously just with the car but not towing.

What are the restrictions as to taking the gas bottles that we use in our caravan? Our gas is in an outside locker that is appropriately labelled and obviously it will be switched off.

We booked through the CC and I've noticed on the confirmation e-mail that it says height of caravan not over 2.49m. I think I estimated this height and having checked caravan is about 10cm higher. Have checked on eurotunnels own website (did a dummy booking), and they do not ask for height of caravan, unless you give the details after payment?

I'm hoping that it won't be a problem cos I don't know if we can amend booking.

Any advice greatly appeciated.

You are ok with gas in lockers, they might stop you to check they are turned off. Don't worry about the 80% full thing, a full bottle is never more than 80% full. If you are booked car/caravan height is no prob. You travel in the single deck train which takes coaches etc.

Once through the check in you just follow the route for taller vehicles usually signed with a picture of a caravan, this automatically takes you to the embarkation point for taller vehicles. The single deck carriages can take vehicles much taller than the average caravan.

We have been using tunnel for a few years now and would not go any other way because it is simple and quick. In fact I would be happier if it took another 10 mins so that I can finish reading my newspaper before arriving at Calais! I also like the fact that if I arrive early I will usually be offered an earlier crossing at no extra charge. Just one gripe - perhaps Eurotunnel could look at their cancellation policy with a view to refunding bookings cancelled some 3 months before travel date.

This is exactly why we're using it! Much easier than a ferry, and only a few pounds more when we booked.

Thanks for the advice, it's put my mind at rest. Can't stop thinking about our forthcoming hols! Still got 53 days left!

Re the gas, Eurotunnel staff checked to make sure turned off, one is brand new so the 80% full question that keeps popping up is not a concern, perhaps because a new one is only 80% full any way. Getting on and off the train was no problem, I did not realise they open both sides of the carriage so pleanty of room to turn......
