Whichever route you take thru France in't summer months you will never be far from a campsite & they are well signposted as you enter towns, so you need to do very little forward planning.

Spain is somewhat different. If you are travelling along any coast there are campsites in every town but in inland Spain campsites are few & far between.

If you provide a bit more info as to your specific plans, time frame etc, I'm sure you will get further help.

Yes; very much depends on whether you're going to eastern Spain (i.e.) Mediterranean, northern Spain (i.e.) Atlantic, or somewhere in between!

Where in Spain and when you are travelling will give very different results to this enquiry. I think you need to add a bit more info for meaningful comments. For example, in winter months France is mostly closed as far as campsites are concerned. They are about but need a bit more planning.

You need to engage a bit if you want meaningful help. If you want to take a direct route from Calais to La Manga & you are happy to use plenty of toll rds. A reasonable route would be:--

Calais, Abbeville, Rouen, Chartres, Orleans, Limoges, Toulouse, Narbonne, Perpignan, then over the border into Spain & follow the A7 autopista down to Alicante & off to La Manga.

Going this way means you will never be far from an overnight campsite wherever you are. If you trace the route on a map you will see you don't have to use toll rds the whole way, you can use those that run more or less besides.

There are other routes that you could take but they involve driving across inland Spain with few campsites. You need to see any useful info you gain from here as a basis for you own research.

Calais, Abbeville, westernside of Paris, Orleans, Clermont Ferrand, Millau viaduct (unmissable) Perpignan, then stay on the (roughly) coastal motorway past Gerona, Barcelona, Valencia, etc down to La Manga is our winter route, and should serve just as well in summer. But mile after mile of concrete crash barriers are very boring, do you intend to do it in a couple of days, or take your time over the journey?

I suggest putting your destination in viaMichelin routefinder, look at the suggested driving times, and think about where you might plan to stop. Then we can suggest or recommend campsites to suit. Arriving in Calais at midday or midnight for example, would make a real difference where you might stop on day 1.

Look for smaller campsites, or municipals etc, in France, Owner run sites are much more likely to fit you in, even if they are officially full, if you are only stopping overnight.
